I guess I could say that my interest in book collecting all started with one book. I grew up in a small town with a community library run completely by volunteers. My dad was on the library board and worked at the library one night every week. Often, we would all go together as a family and read or do homework while he helped the patrons. I read all the books I could get my hands on but I especially loved Nancy Drew. (I mean, really, what 11 year old girl didn't love Nancy Drew?) I probably read every Nancy Drew book that our little library had, and then my dad started finding used copies for me at book stores or thrift stores. Once I had read one, he would take it back in and trade it out (for credit) for another. And then one night he brought me home this copy:
The Secret of the Old Clock is the first book in the series and probably still my favorite of them all. I had already read it, but this copy was special. It was printed in 1959 and has a dust jacket with artwork you don't see on the newer copies. It was exciting to have a book so old and so different from what most people have. I loved it, and there, in that moment, the bibliomaniac in me was born.

Yes, it is a nice copy for a reprint! And, now 60 some years old! At the Pasadena International Book Fair last year I saw two firsts of this book that were listed between $15 to $20,000(the difference depended on condition). I'm still looking for that 1st for you, at a slightly lower price! Keep your eyes open, daughter!
