This blog has gone through many changes.
I first created it in 2007, back before blogs were so trendy (really!) but didn't do much with it at the time. I have since posted in it on and off over the years, sometimes posting about family, sometimes about projects, sometimes about nothing at all.
I left it alone entirely for over a year after starting a style blog (the posts of which have since been imported into this blog). The style blog was a short-lived project, happily interrupted by pregnancy and the birth of our first child, and now I am back here again. I have always enjoyed reading others' blogs, and too often I have tried to make this blog into something like those other blogs I have read, instead of allowing it to be a reflection of who I really am. I want to change that.
The title, "Me and the Great World" comes from a beloved story, Betsy and the Great World, one in the Betsy-Tacey series by Maud Hart Lovelace. Betsy is the kind of girl I always wanted to be. She is quick-witted and adventurous, thoughtful, kind and smart. Not to mention a world traveler and a child of the early 1900's, my dream era (ok, so she ties with Laura Ingalls and Elizabeth Bennett).
As much as I love history and dream of a more simple life, when people had real conversations over the dinner table, wrote letters by hand, and everyday etiquette was the norm, my time is now and I feel I should make an effort to document it. I may not be Betsy, (or Laura, or Lizzy) but I can still appreciate the charming life I do live, even if I don't wear a petticoat.
Here are a few things about me:
I enjoy reading. I would like to be considered a "great reader", but probably am not; there are too many books I have not yet read, and too many times when I have gone months without reading anything at all.
I like to sew. I have been sewing since I was a little girl, piecing together tiny quilts with scraps my mom gave me and sewing tiny clothes for my dolls. Lately I have been sewing more of my own clothes and am trying to become a better seamstress.
I love clothes. I have always liked to shop and I love mixing and matching outfits. Sometimes I lay awake at night just thinking about things in my closet and how I might wear them.
I am a wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister and a friend.
This is Me and the Great World. My family, my interests, my thoughts and my beliefs. I hope you'll stick around for the journey.
