Still my favorite

Of all the books I have read, Jane Eyre is still one of my very favorites. It's one of those stories that just makes you feel. It makes you believe in goodness, and love, and everything beautiful. But it also forces the reality of wickedness, and pain, and suffering upon you. Jane's life seems so real and so powerful that in a way it becomes part of you.
My dad has always loved books and has become quite the collector of rare books over the past few years. He found this little treasure online through a seller in France and knew that I would love it in my collection (it was a wedding gift from he and my mom).  Charlotte Bronte published Jane Eyre under the pen name of Currer Bell and this edition was published in 1857 while the pen name was still being used. My dad had a case made for it to protect it and it sits proudly on my shelf, getting pulled off every time I want to read a passage, or mostly when I want to show it off (kind of like I'm doing now...).

What is your favorite book and why?

  1. Actually, the book came from Reunion (sp?), France, a small island off the west coast of Africa. Wonder how it got there from England? Sort of a very early paperback edition but with stiffer boards, in absolutely beautiful shape. A beautiful book for a beautiful daughter! Hardly a better book in the world than "Jane Eyre!" Love you, Amaryah! Dad.
