Challenges are challenging
So two days of my 30-Minute-A-Day-Screen-Time-Challenge and I have already learned a lot! First of all, I now know that I am totally addicted to the internet. One of the first things I have noticed is how much I want to get online, even if I don't have a reason to get online. I get home from school and my first thought is "check your email!" I get home from hanging out with friends and my brain shouts "get on Facebook!" "No!" I tell my brain, "Not today. I already used up my 30 minutes."
That's the other thing I have learned. 30 minutes goes by fast. Doing this challenge has made me have to think more deliberately about what is most important. I have to plan out what I am going to do before I get online so that I make the most of every minute. For example, I like to get online and find new recipes. I wanted to do that yesterday, but I had already used up my time, so I wrote it on my list of things to do today. I can't just get on Facebook first thing because that will use up all my time, so I have to carefully plan what sites I will visit.
I used up my 30 minutes yesterday before I went to school, so when I got home I had the whole afternoon to do non-screen-time things. I cleaned the bathroom, did my homework (even homework that wasn't due today), made dinner, read, worked on a dress that I am altering, read some more and went to bed. It was nice. I think its great that I have really think and plan out how I will spend my time, its much more meaningful and then I don't waste any of it.
Well, my handy timer is getting close to the five minute mark, so I am going to end here. More stories to come!
